Operating Standard:
Sponsoring units offering or hosting youth programs must ensure there is a plan in place for obtaining medical attention for minors in emergency and non-emergency situations. Plans should include how people, on or off site, can get emergency and non-emergency medical assistance.
This standard is intended to make the parent or guardian aware of when the unit or program staff will notify them in the event of an injury or illness.
Care and treatment should be appropriate for the staff persons providing care and should take into consideration common injuries and illnesses that could be reasonably anticipated. Plans should include first-aid guidelines and identification of instances when professional medical advice/care will be sought.
Evidence or Documentation:
- Documented written procedure for non-emergency medical care.
- Documented written procedure for emergency medical care.
- Form for obtaining parental consent to seek emergency medical treatment for youth participants.
