Communicable Disease Management

Recommended Practice:
Sponsoring units offering or hosting youth programs should develop a written communicable disease management plan that includes the following components:
- Pertinent regulations from the State, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or Local Public Health Authority (LPHA)
- The program's immunization policy (if applicable)
- A designated leader or response team, including their roles/responsibilities related to communicable disease management
- Protocols for identifying communicable illnesses, evaluating potential impacts of an outbreak, and taking action
- Protocols for notifying parents, program staff, unit leadership, and the university
- Protocols for communicating externally with the media, health authorities, and the general public
Evidence or Documentation:
- Copy of program's or sponsoring unit's communicable disease management plan.
- Record of changes, plan distribution list and training documentation.
