Operating Standard:
All university employees who are required by law to report, plus non-employee volunteers who are obligated to report under OSU policy, must immediately report suspected child abuse and neglect to local law enforcement or directly to the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS).
Make a Report:
- For urgent or imminent safety concerns, including incidents in which a child or other individual is at serious risk of physical harm, or to report a crime in progress, call 9-1-1.
- For non-emergencies, call 1-855-503-SAFE (7233). This toll-free number allows you to report abuse of any child or adult to the Oregon Department of Human Services.
Following the mandatory report to law enforcement or DHS, submit a post-report notification to OSU for any reported instances of child abuse involving university activities, locations, or affiliated persons.
Post-Report: (for instances related to university activities, locations, or affiliated persons)
Evidence or Documentation:
- Oral report to law enforcement or Oregon DHS.
- Submission of OSU Mandatory Reporting Notification Form (for instances of child abuse involving university activities, locations, or affiliated persons).
Applies to:
- OSU employees, at all times and in any location
- Non-employees and volunteers, when serving in a youth program
